Polygamy Or Multiple Girlfriends? What’s More Fair?

Humanity has not succeeded in regulating relations between men and women outside divine religions. Islam, the final divine religion, has superseded earlier religions. Many people think that Muslims give paramount importance to pleasure because Islam allows a man to marry up to four wives at the same time, and question the women rights in Islam.

Allah says: “And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of [other] women, two or three or four.” [Noble Quran 4:3]

Here it does not give the men absolute authority. It lays down certain controls, the first of which is to set a maximum of four wives. Secondly, for a man to marry more than one wife he should be able to support them and fulfill his marital duties. Thirdly, he must treat them with absolute fairness. God Allah says:

“But if you fear that you will not be just, then [marry only] one or those your right hand possesses. That is more suitable that you may not incline [to injustice].” [Noble Quran 4:3]
